Commercial Waste
Every business has a Duty of Care to dispose of their waste in a correct and responsible manner. Business waste cannot be disposed of at home, at Household Waste and Recycling Sites or Local Recycling Points as waste collections are not provided through your Business Rate payments.
All businesses must arrange a waste collection through either an independent
Registered Waste Carrier or through
Wealden District Council, who provide refuse and recycling collections to businesses. If using a contractor always check they are registered to carry waste and ask for their waste carrier number. If you are in any doubt of a company's credentials, call the
Environment Agency on 0870 8506506 for an instant waste carrier validation check.
Failure to comply with your Duty of Care responsibilities could lead to a heavy fine.
Wealden's Waste Management Officers periodically visit business premises to ensure proper waste management facilities are in place and are on hand to give advice on the law and how it applies to your particular business. For further help and information call 01892 602626 or email recycling@wealden.gov.uk.
